Celebrating the Neighbourhood Day with Noahs Pudding Print E-mail

Father Gerard, Alain Fatih Asar, Father Ian Franklin, Ms Margaret NaylonQIS celebrated Sunday, February 1 as the Neighbourhood Day at St. Martin’s Catholic Church at Eight Miles Plains. The worshippers at the church had the chance to experience and learn about the Ashura (the Noah’s pudding) and sharing of Ashura which is a common practice among Muslim and Christian peoples around the Mediterranean. Sharing Noah’s pudding is a symbolic representation of the unity and essential relationship of humans to one another and to their Creator. Ashura or the Noah’s pudding is and was made from various ingredients with different flavours but Ashura itself is very sweet – just like beautiful Australia which is made by people of different cultural and religious backgrounds.

 Ayse Dogan delivered a short but sweet speech explaining what Ashura and the tradition is about and after the sermon, Canan Coskun, Ayse Savran from QIS Ladies group and QIS Directors Yasar Savran and Fatih Asar shared some 150 bowls of Noah’s pudding with priests and worshippers from the church.

As QIS, we would like to thank very warmly Ms.Margaret Naylon from Ecumenism and Inter-religious Relations, Ministry and Community Life Team of Faith and Life Vicariate and Father Ian Frankling and Father Gerard for their efforts in organizing this glorious day and we would like to thank fellow worshippers who shared our father and prophet Noah’s pudding with us.
